About

Robert Eugene Rubino was born in Manhattan's Greenwich Village in 1948 and raised in Queens and suburban Nassau County. He served in the Air Force from 1966–70 and came to the Bay Area in 1972, attending Laney College in Oakland and graduating from San Francisco State University with a journalism degree in 1979.

After a 34-year career as a newspaper copy editor and sports columnist, he volunteered as an adult literacy tutor for six years. Since 2016 he has published prose and poetry in various online and print journals and has been with LaborFest Writers since 2022.

He thinks he might've been the model for the 98-pound weakling in the Charles Atlas bodybuilding ads of the 1950s.
